How-to: Set a deadline date

POSTED AT 14:18 on 9th May 2007

To keep the tweeto interface simple and uncluttered we actively decided to keep the input fields to an absolute minimum and not just add more fields for the sake of something only 5% of our users might use. One of these features that few people use is a deadline or due date, but despite this we still get emails asking us to add the field. To all these people we offer the following solution:

When adding a task set the deadline date as a tag. This will then allow you to quickly sort your tasks by due date and you can use your own wording/formatting.

With Deadline Date
Adding a task with a deadline.

Deadline Date Tags
The deadline tags.

Because tags can contain anything that you like you can easily make up your own system for managing your deadline to suit your needs and is far more customizable than a specific field for a due date.

How-to Series

POSTED AT 12:04 on 8th May 2007

We get a lot of emails and feedback from people asking us to add a certain feature or functionality to tweeto which can already be implemented in the current system. To try and answer these questions and show just how much you can do with tweeto we have decided to create a how-to series outlining some tips and tricks on how tweeto can be used for more advanced purposes.

We will post a new how-to every few days and we encourage you to check back often to see what new tips and tricks we’ve got to offer. If you haven’t already you can subscribe to our RSS feed here.

Working on Email Feature

POSTED AT 13:55 on 7th May 2007

Hey folks, just a quick update to tell you all that we are currently working on some new email features for tweeto so that you can send and receive tasks over email. We will try to roll out the features as they are completed and are so far looking to add the following features:

- Ability to email your task list to yourself or a friend.
- Setup an automatic daily email to send you your uncompleted tasks
- Ability to enter tasks via an email

With these new features we will be working on an API so that we (and you) can develop more applications that use tweeto for storage, and we also hope this will make tweeto more useful as it will be accessible in multiple ways.

Unexpected Downtime

POSTED AT 20:25 on 5th May 2007

At around 7:30 (BST - GMT+1) we experienced an error with our server that caused the site to go offline. The problem was with a corrupt database and has since been fixed. The server was down for around 2 hours before we managed to fix the issue and test, before launching the normal services again.

The following is a time line of the events:

7:30pm - Database becomes corrupt and crashes MySQL server.
7:45pm - We are notified via SMS that the tweeto.com site is not working
7:55pm - We asses the problem and create a holding page to explain the downtime
8:00pm - We launch the holding page to explain to users that the site is down and we are working to fix it.
8:30pm - We found the cause of the problem and begin to fix it
9:05pm - The problem is fixed and we begin to test the services and bring them back online.
9:15pm - All services have been restored and tweeto.com is working again fully.

We are sorry for any problems this might have caused to anybody and will be looking into how we can further prevent any issues like this in the future.
